Paths ahead of agriculture

Farmers are considered by some to be the future billionaires of the world, while others consider the future security of the world and the main conflict between governments and even nations to be derived from the strength and power of agriculture.

25% of the black and fertile soil of Ukraine could give a good incentive to take over the players of the main world powers, and the occurrence of a war would was enough to remind Europe of its weakness in providing the agricultural value chain in this continent.

However, even in the best conditions of world peace, climate change and unstable agricultural management have involved many countries in food insecurity.

xcessive use of pesticides in industrial agriculture and even by small owners, who are not aware and irresponsible to water and soil and even future generations, has created pollution on the surface of the soil and even underground water.

And now, agriculture has no way but to resort to alternative options in response to environmental problems. Agriculture in the ocean, agriculture in space and urban and vertical agriculture may be the paths ahead of agriculture, so that perhaps with a sustainable and circular approach, it can be considered a solution to meet the food needs of the world.

Alternative meat

Cultured meat, or culture derived from cell culture, seeks to reduce methane emissions by reducing cattle production in the world. Reports indicate that 70 startups in the world are focused on this issue.

Giant food industry companies such as Nestlé are also trying not to fall behind in this matter, and they have also entered the field of cell-based meat cultivation.

Israeli companies have used the tobacco plant for cultured meat, and Iranian experts in the country have also been able to produce vegetable meat from beet leaves and algae, although Iranian experts abroad also have a hand in this field.

Ali Khadim Hosseini’s company in California operates a traditional cattle farm and provides the meat production cells and environments needed to grow them.

Insect farming

If you read the story of agriculture in South Korea, insect farming is a vast and growing industry you cannot ignore.

Insects are accessible proteins that are like nuts on Iranian Eid tables in the basket of popular snacks and foods of Korean people.

Insect farming has many fans in the world and has turned it into a low-cost activity.

Carbon farming

The general goal of carbon farming is to increase the amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) stored in the soil and thus reduce its presence in the atmosphere. In practice, farmers intend to participate in efforts to deal with climate change by using different agricultural methods from crop rotation, cover crops and reduced tillage to precise nitrogen application.

Agricultural activities account for approximately 30% of total greenhouse gas emissions, mainly due to the use of chemical fertilizers, pesticides, and animal waste.

Urban agriculture

Urban agriculture means shortening the supply chain and feeding the urban population, which can provide communities with safe and sustainable access to nutritious food.

Cities should produce at least 30 percent of their fruit and vegetables through technology-based food production in ten years, thanks to technology that will no longer limit the growth of other crops by traditional growth cycles, soil health, or weather conditions.

The main paths facing agriculture have been mentioned and all of them can be optimized and show more efficiency with the benefit of technology.
